What Networking Challenges Were You Facing?
Any data center or network performance issue can directly impact patient care and we are always striving to eliminate or reduce these issues.
What Led You To Look For A New Solution?
The OptiView XG provides hop-to-hop diagnostics in the data center and integrates seamlessly into TruView.
The Everett Clinic has a unique way of using the OptiView XG. Can you describe how you use the mobile tester?
The great thing about the XG is that it can go where you need it. Right now we need it in our data center, so that’s where it sits 24/7 to provide hop-to-hop analysis in support of our TruView monitoring system. When we need to dive in and get detailed packet information, the XG delivers.
The data center is our central site and enables the delivery of our applications. If it doesn’t perform, patient care can be negatively impacted. Take Epic as an example – our primary system for maintaining electronic health records. It’s a huge multi-tiered application suite that includes several smaller applications that all bounce from server to server, gathering data requests from different sources and funneling back responses to our clinical and administrative teams. When a doctor in an exam room wants real-time patient data, he uses the Epic system. If the performance among these servers and applications runs too slow, it can result in poor patient care. We can’t let that happen.
“We see a lot of possibilities with the OptiView XG platform and have had some interesting discussions with NetScout. We’re excited for future updates and upgrades that will allow us to leverage the XG in a lot of new and wonderful ways well into the future."
With so many applications talking to each other all the time, the data-intensive environment is ripe for performance issues. The larger TruView system identifies issues and helps the IT team tweak and adjust the network. Adding the OptiView XG allows us to run hop-to-hop diagnostics in the data center and integrate the data automatically and seamlessly into TruView.
So you find value in OptiView XG even though it’s only deployed in the data center?
Definitely. There are other tools out there that we could use, but the OptiView XG provides a way to automate our analysis efforts while still leveraging the full power of TruView. We aren’t worried about not using the XG to its fullest, because we’re looking at the long-term value over the product’s entire lifecycle. That mobile functionality is there if we need it. Plus, NetScout regularly releases new features and functionality.
