Congratulations! You are 3 clicks away from resolving your Network and Application performance issues. TruView™ and Visual Performance Manager™ Quick Start Service will get your system out of the box and solving problems fast. NETSCOUT experts will work with you to determine the best plan for implementing TruView or Visual Performance Manager in your environment while minimizing the burden on your IT staff.

Your Quick Start engagement will ensure your system is installed, configured, and provisioned correctly the first time. At the end of the Quick Start your team will be capable of using the solution to solve troublesome network and application issues. You will be able to baseline your network and application performance and create custom real time and historical reports for your peers or upper management. The Quick Start will prepare your team to support future network and application deployments and ensure the tool is utilized to its fullest potential.

A Professional Services Engineer will complete the following tasks:

Appliance Installation
Whether you purchased an appliance or built your own TruView or VPM Server, our team is prepared to get your system installed and configured. The NETSCOUT Professional Services Engineer will work with the customer to:
  • Verify the TruView, APA, and NPA appliances are physically connected, IP addressed and configured correctly
  • Verify the customer's span ports are configured correctly and sending data to the appliance
  • Verify the DELL Remote Access Card (DRAC) is connected and IP addressed
  • Guide the customer through building the TruView or VPM Server including installing Windows 2008, SQL 2008, and the TruView or VPM application
  • Install and customize virtual NPAs and virtual Omnipoint Elements to support the customers VMWare ESXi implementation

VPM Server Configuration and Provisioning
The PS engineer will guide you through the TruView or VPM Server configuration and provisioning. We will make sure that you are aware of all of the systems capabilities and complete the following:
  • Rename the Server and reconfigure SQL Reporting Services
  • Add the System to the Active Directory and configure single sign on authentication using LDAP or Radius
  • Configure the appliance SMTP settings for e-mailing reports
  • Configure the appliance to send alerts (traps) via SNMP
  • Customize the appliance with the customer's logo
  • Install customer's virus scan software and configure the directory exclusions
  • Upgrade the appliances to the latest version of software
  • Apply and configure licenses
  • Create users and groups in Server Administration

Network and Application Provisioning
Using our custom provisioning tools we will have your routers, switches, and applications provisioned quickly.
  • Create a site, subnet, and subnet mask spreadsheet for all of the network locations
  • Create an application spreadsheet listing the application name, server IP, network mask, tag, and TCP Ports
  • Identify all detected interfaces and associate them with sites and subnets
  • Create XML files from the Excel output and import the data into the TruView or VPM Server
  • Configure Sites, servers and up to 3 N-tier custom applications (proxy servers, load balancers, VIPs)
  • Configure alarms and thresholds
  • Configure user, group, and panel permissions
  • Create up to 3 business groups
  • Create up to 3 custom reports
  • Create up to 3 custom dashboards

Backup and Disaster Recovery
The backup and disaster recovery plan will focus on the TruView or VPM server. A NETSCOUT engineer will create an automated process to backup all of the data required to rebuild the system in the event of a failure. We will also provide scripts to compress and copy the data to the customers Network Attached Storage (NAS) location, so the data can be stored in a separate location. A summary of these steps is as follows:
  • Collect various reports and system information that will be useful in re-creating the system, such as user and group reports
  • Backup the SQL users
  • Backup the ServerHealth mysql database
  • Backup the VPMServerhealth databases
  • Backup and compress the MS SQL databases and logs
  • Copy the data from the appliance to the customers NAS
  • Review the backup and restore process with customer

Executive Reports Creation and Configuration
Using our Ad Hoc reporting tool we will create up to 5 custom reports, examples include:
  • Usage Trend (Bytes in Bytes out all sites)
  • Top End User Response Time by Application
  • Top Applications per site
  • Transaction Count by Application with Threshold
  • Calendar Chart Utilization by Site

Knowledge Transfer
Prior to concluding the engagement our professional service engineer will conduct a knowledge transfer session with your staff. We will review how to administer and use the system with the customer's staff. We will provide a network and application health check and review common network and application pitfalls. We will also review workflow best practices.

Deliverables and Leave-behind Items
The following deliverables will be left with the customer at the conclusion of the engagement:
  • Engagement check list
  • End of engagement report out
  • Comprehensive configuration documentation including a spreadsheet that details:
    • Login and Password summary
    • Dell service tags and serial numbers
    • IP addressing scheme
    • Server names
    • Complete TruView or VPM configuration settings
    • License keys
    • Gold credentials
  • Backup scripts
  • Project management documentation

Executive Reports Creation and Configuration
  • Remote engagements assume the customer will physically install the appliances in their data center
  • Quick Start tasks are dependent on the collectors (APA, NPA, ASE) purchased
  • Analysis Service Element (ASE) On Site Installation can be completed at an additional cost per site
