Warwickshire Local Authority provides IT network, data centre and support services to 249 schools in the county through its Schools Wide Area Network (SWAN) and four data centres. “We have three priorities: safeguarding the children, data security and delivering the learning platform. Being able to see and understand what is happening on the network at all times is central to meeting these goals,” said Chris Page, Technical Development Manager at Children's Services, Warwickshire Local Authority. “When we discussed monitoring during the planning of the network implementation, BT iNet highlighted that the Cisco routers we were using all provided Netflow and IP SLA data, so we based our monitoring on exploiting that data for management and network capacity planning.” We looked at the Netflow tools recommended by Cisco and tested these against our needs.
